If the EPUB has no fixed print pagination, the tool starts with an estimated page count and lets you replace it with the page total shown by your own reader.

How the progress estimate works

The Reading Time tool gives you an honest estimate of how long each book might take to read. The catalog’s median reading time is 325 minutes, or about five and a half hours.

Estimates come from the word count and an assumed reading speed. Your actual time will vary, but the tool helps you pick a book that fits your available time.

Quick Reads

7 books under 20,000 words. These can often be finished in under an hour.

Steady Reads

21 books between 20,000 and 60,000 words. These offer a few hours of reading.

Immersive Reads

66 books between 60,000 and 120,000 words. Expect a longer commitment.

Marathon Reads

17 books over 120,000 words. These are substantial works that may take several sittings.

Reading Tracker

Planning Your Progress in Pages

The Reading Tracker helps you turn a book's length into a manageable daily habit. It records progress in pages, not sections or minutes, so the first step is knowing how many pages your edition has. If the catalog doesn't provide a fixed page count, the tracker estimates it by dividing the word count by 250 words per page. You can always replace that estimate with the total shown in your own reading app or printed edition.

Setting a Daily Page Goal

The default daily goal is 20 pages, but you can adjust it to anything that fits your schedule. For a book like "Letters of a Japanese schoolboy (\"Hashimura Togo\") — Edition Insights", which has 72,476 words, the estimated page count is about 290 pages (72476 / 250 ≈ 289.9). At 20 pages per day, that's roughly 15 days. If you increase the goal to 30 pages, you'll finish in about 10 days.

The tracker calculates estimated finish days by dividing remaining pages by your daily goal, rounding up. It also estimates remaining time based on the catalog's estimated reading minutes, proportional to how many pages you have left. This lets you see not just when you'll finish, but how much total reading time remains.

Adjusting for Your Edition

Page counts vary between editions. A paperback might have 300 pages, while an ebook might have 250. The tracker lets you override the estimated total with the actual number from your copy. This ensures your progress percentage is accurate. For "Letters of a Japanese schoolboy", if your edition shows 310 pages, you can enter that and the tracker will recalculate all estimates accordingly.

Your progress is stored in your browser's localStorage, so no account is needed. This means your data stays on your device, and you can pick up where you left off as long as you use the same browser. It's a simple system designed for personal use.

Using the Tracker with Other Tools

The tracker is most useful after you've chosen a book with the Finder or Compare tools. For instance, if you've compared "The mystery at lovers' cave" and "The lost clue" and decided on the former, you can open the tracker and set a goal based on its 77,430 words (about 310 pages). A 20-page daily goal means about 16 days. This turns a vague intention into a concrete plan.

A Simple Tool for a Simple Purpose

The Reading Tracker doesn't track sections or minutes—only pages. That's a deliberate choice to keep the focus on the physical act of reading. By updating your current page regularly, you build a record of progress that can be motivating. For readers who are reading a short story or a 177,000-word epic, the tracker helps you see the finish line.

Remember that the estimated page count is a starting point. If your edition differs, adjust it. The tracker is flexible enough to accommodate any version of the book you have, making it a reliable companion for your reading journey.
